University College Birmingham (UCB) had there open day today and I went, as I live in Birmingham it was easy to get to. Its in the back of town so if you aren't from there it might of been abit difficult to find it.
I was at the Richmond House building my first impression of the building inside was very cluttered and tight, I didn't like the feel of the building. The open talk was informative telling us about what was going on and the times.
The subject I was there to see was the Specialist Hair and Media Make-up FdA/BA Hons(http://www.ucb.ac.uk/undergraduate/courses/specialist-make-up/full-time/specialist-hair-and-media-make-up-fda.aspx). Although the start of the talk started promising it didn't last long.
They gave a description of all the modules, but didn't do a very good job of explaing them. Same with the examing process, it wasn't really informative. As well as not being informative it was a very long winded thing, and me and my mother were so bored!
It also got worse when they asked if there were any question, someone asked along the lines of 'what sort of portfolio do we need?' and she started saying everything about how your not judge on that, and not answering the question.
What got me annoyed was when they said they don't have interviews! I got annoyed because I didn't do the level 3 course in it, so I don't have what they taught, even though I'll have the UCAS points. Due to this even if I had the skills, without an interview I can't prove with a portfolio that I have the talent to, or to convince them the reasons for changing my career path! I don't get how it works, are you just filtered though a computer system. So yerh, that's my reasons for not liking the place/course.
The studio's however are really nice, really chic and very bright, open. But them and the tutors were nice were the only good bits about it in my opinion.
Sorry for the negative post, but that's my opinion.
